2,400 LG Candidates Face Legal Action for Failing to Submit Financial Reports

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Election Commission says that the names of 2,400 local government candidates who failed to submit their income and expenditure reports will be forwarded to the police for legal action.

Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said that the police will proceed with further steps based on the advice of the Attorney General.

According to the Commission, 7,690 candidates have submitted their financial reports as required.

However, the Commission has yet to receive the income and expenditure reports of 223 elected members.

In the local government elections held on the 6th of May, the National People’s Power (NPP) secured a majority of local government institutions.
