Colombo(News 1st); A special mass was held this morning to mark the191st annual feast of the St. Anthony's Shrine in Kochchikade.
The event was led by the Auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, Most Venerable Maxwell Silva.
The Sirasa and Shakthi Media Network is the media partner for the annual feast this year.
The grand mass for the annual feast got underway this morning under the leadership of the Administrator of the St. Anthony's Shrine, Rev. Fr. Jude Samantha.
Founded in 1806 as a modest shrine amidst the bustling city of Colombo, the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, whose statue was brought from Goa in 1822.
On August 15, 1990, the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade was officially established as a place of worship under the Colombo Archdiocese, continuing to radiate divine blessings and remaining a shining beacon in the vibrant heart of Colombo.
The Saint Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade, Colombo, stands as a unique symbol of harmony and coexistence among people of all faiths.
This year, once again, a large crowd gathered to participate in the annual festival. This evening, a procession bearing the statue of Saint Anthony made its way through the streets.
