Fake Hair Dye Operation Busted—Two Fined, One Faces Jail

Colombo (News 1st): A businessman involved in the distribution of counterfeit hair dye has been sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.

However, the court suspended the prison sentence for a period of five years.

The case was filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority against two businessmen from the Wellampitiya area, who were found to be storing and distributing fake hair dye in 10-gram packets. The products were being stored for sale at a retail outlet in the Pettah area.

Following the investigation, one individual from Wellampitiya, responsible for storing the counterfeit products, and another from Colombo 14, responsible for distribution, pleaded guilty to four charges.

The court imposed a fine of Rs. 30,000—Rs. 7,500 per charge—on each of them.

In addition to the fine, the businessman from Colombo 14 was sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment, suspended for five years.

Furthermore, the business establishment in Colombo 12, where the products were stored for sale, was also fined Rs. 7,500 after admitting guilt.
