Welikada Prison Officer Nabbed in Drug Smuggling Attempt

COLOMBO (News 1st); A prison officer at Welikada Prison has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle narcotics into the facility, according to prison authorities.

The suspect was apprehended while reportedly trying to bring in illegal substances, including what is suspected to be heroin and crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as "Ice"). 

The exact nature and quantity of the drugs are currently under forensic examination.

The arrested officer is expected to be produced before the court later today.
