Sri Lanka Boosts COVID Surveillance

COLOMBO (News 1st); In response to growing global concerns over a newly emerging COVID-19 variant, Sri Lanka has intensified PCR testing in selected hospitals across the country.

Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, stated that hospitals have been instructed to increase surveillance, particularly among patients admitted with fever or respiratory symptoms. 

Dr. Jasinghe emphasized that while the situation in Sri Lanka remains under control, the Ministry is closely and continuously monitoring developments related to the new strain. He also clarified that there are currently no plans to impose movement restrictions or lockdowns.
