Deadline for Submission of Election Campaign Finance Reports to End Today (27)

COLOMBO ( News 1st) - Chairman of the National Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Ratnayake says that the deadline for submitting income and expenditure reports related to the recent local government election ends today.

He stated that candidates must submit their campaign finance reports by midnight today. 

He further noted that those who fail to comply will be reported to the police.

Following the deadline, necessary actions will be taken against non-compliant individuals based on legal advice from the Attorney General.

Speaking via telephone, R.M.A.L. Ratnayake emphasized the importance of adhering to the legal requirements outlined in the Election Campaign Finance Regulation Act No. 03 of 2023. 

Under this law, candidates are required to submit separate reports detailing their campaign income and expenditures.

Additionally, the Election Commission has requested independent groups and political parties that have not yet submitted the names of their members for official gazette notification to do so promptly. 

These names must be submitted either to the National Election Commission or to the respective Returning Officers.
