COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says the proposed electricity tariff is 5.4 percent lower than the tariff in January this year.
In a statement, the CEB said it had already reduced tariffs by 20 percent earlier this year as a relief measure for consumers.
Following the reduction, the average selling price of a unit of electricity has decreased to Rs. 24.
The CEB stated that the proposed tariff revision is a partial correction for the under-profit incurred during the first half of the year due to the reduced rates.
It emphasized that the newly proposed tariff remains lower than the rate at the beginning of the year.
