Anuradhapura's Royal Precinct, Monasteries to be Conserved

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Central Cultural Fund has decided to launch a new initiative to excavate and conserve the ancient city of Anuradhapura. 

Dr. Nilan Cooray, the Director General, stated that this initiative will include the conservation of the Royal Precinct, the Panchamaha Vihara Complex, the irrigation villges built around the large reservoirs, and the forest monasteries and rock temples.

The conservation process will involve excavations at necessary sites and the use of advanced technological and artistic methods. 

Dr. Cooray also mentioned that guidance and technical knowledge will be provided by UNESCO for this project.

Additionally, Dr. Cooray revealed that approximately 12 forest monasteries have been identified in the newly surveyed areas.
