COLOMBO (News 1st) -
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has introduced a new discount scheme for fuel distributors starting today.
The scheme ensures that, after covering all taxes, wages, and expenses, a very small-scale filling station will earn a net profit of over Rs. 250,000 per month, a medium-sized station will earn over Rs. 1 million, and a high-sales station will earn nearly Rs. 2 million.
Factors such as the challenges of running stations in remote areas, costs of new stations, actual operational expenses, and changes in the Consumer Price Index were considered in formulating the discounts. The Corporation recently informed distributors about these changes.
Meanwhile, a group of fuel station owners held a press conference in Colombo, stating that their agreement with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation entitles them to an additional 3% profit per liter of fuel sold.
They added that while fuel distribution will continue until a resolution is reached through negotiations, they will not place new fuel orders.
In response to this people were seen queuing at several fuel stations in protest against the fuel station owners' demand for additional profit.
