COLOMBO (News 1st); Air Marshal Vasu Bandu Edirisinghe, Commander of the Air Force, commenting on the evolving global security landscape, emphasized there is paradigm shift in both traditional and non-traditional security threat assessments.
Air Marshal Edirisinghe noted that the world is witnessing significant changes in how security threats are evaluated.
Maritime security, in particular, has become a major concern for many nations within the Indian Ocean Rim (IOR), he said adding that the current evaluation of threats encompasses economic, trade, energy, environmental, and human security, as well as the impacts of climate change and technological threats such as cyber security challenges, drone warfare, and missile technology advancements.
These evolving threats blur the lines between traditional and non-traditional security hypotheses, making national responses increasingly complex and intricate.
Air Marshal Edirisinghe highlighted the need for air and space power to be versatile, adaptable, and technologically driven to address these challenges effectively.
