COLOMBO (News 1st) - Further investigations into the tragic Hiniduma triple homicide will be carried out under the full supervision of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A senior police officer revealed that crucial details about the case are emerging as inquiries progress.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a dispute over a foreign employment scam, allegedly orchestrated by a person claiming to be the secretary of a former minister, was behind the shooting.
The incident took place on the night of January 30th at an abandoned hotel in Mahabodhiwatta, Hiniduma, where two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire with a T-56 firearm, killing three individuals.
The victims were identified as the 55-year-old hotel owner, Idunil Saman Kumara from Mahabodhiwatta, Chathuranga Kumara from Nawathimulla, and Neville from Ambalangoda.
Investigations, including phone network analysis, have uncovered that Neville, along with his brother, had paid a total of Rs. 2.8 million to a man named Priyantha, a resident of Hiniduma through the hotel owner in exchange for promises of overseas employment.
Priyantha had falsely claimed to be the secretary of a former minister.
Further investigations are ongoing.
