Police Arrest of 167 Criminals and 2,561 Wanted Individuals

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have arrested 167 individuals directly involved in criminal activities during a special operation conducted across the island. 

The operation also led to the apprehension of 2,561 individuals with outstanding warrants.

SSP Buddhika Manathunga, the Police Spokesperson, provided details of the operation. 

"Through this operation, we have arrested 167 individuals directly involved in criminal activities. Additionally, we have apprehended 2,561 individuals who were evading arrest despite having warrants issued against them," he stated.

The ten-day operation also saw the seizure of three T-56 rifles and three pistols. 

In addition to targeting criminal activities, the police conducted extensive anti-narcotics operations. These efforts resulted in the confiscation of approximately 462 kilograms of Kerala cannabis, 15 kilograms of hashish, and 8 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice). The seized substances have been handed over for further legal action.

"The aim of this operation, organized by the Inspector General of Police with the participation of all police officers, is to ensure that the public can live without fear and suspicion, free from crime. We will continue these operations relentlessly to achieve this goal," he added.
