COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has forecasted a decrease in rainfall today.
Director of the Forecasting Division, Ajith Wijemanna, stated that several areas across the country may still experience intermittent showers.
Meanwhile, the number of people affected by the heavy rains has risen to 160,093.
The latest report from the Disaster Management Centre indicates that 9,591 individuals remain in 70 safe locations.
Tragically, three people have lost their lives due to the adverse weather conditions.
In other developments, the Provincial Director of Education announced that all schools in the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kelaniya zones, which were not operating as safety centers, will reopen today.
Additionally, the Department of Irrigation reported that the flood threat from the Kelani, Kalu, Nilwala, Gin, and Attanagalu Oya rivers is now receding.
The landslide warnings issued for several divisional secretariats in seven districts, including Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Ratnapura, and Nuwara Eliya, will remain in effect until this afternoon.
