COLOMBO (News 1st) - Leader of the National People's Power President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the urgent need for a strong political mandate during a meeting of candidates on Sunday (13).
With the general election set for November 14, he outlined key strategies for securing the necessary support from the electorate.
President Dissanayake stressed the importance of both quality and quantity in parliamentary representation. "We must build a Parliament that reflects our commitment to the people," he said, urging candidates to prioritize capable and trustworthy representatives. He warned that a focus solely on numbers without quality would undermine the effectiveness of the NPP.
He also highlighted the significance of maintaining public trust in the NPP's vision for governance. "We have a unique opportunity to demonstrate our approach to other political factions and our commitment to a new society," he said, calling on candidates to engage in a campaign marked by respect and unity. "It’s crucial to avoid conflict and anger; we must nurture our bond with the people," he added.
Dissanayake described the upcoming election as a decisive moment in Sri Lanka's history, asserting that the NPP has already laid the groundwork for victory. "This election will strengthen that victory. Together, united under our slogan 'Everyone of the Compass,' we will move forward and deliver real change for our citizens," he concluded.
