Asset Declarations Mandatory for All Parliamentary Election Candidates

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission has announced that all candidates submitting nominations for the 2024 Parliamentary elections must declare their assets and liabilities.

Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that all candidates from recognized political parties and independent groups must submit their asset and liability declarations to the relevant returning officer along with their nomination papers.

Additionally, candidates for National List MP positions are also required to submit their asset and liability declarations to the Commission along with their nomination papers.

Ratnayake emphasized that failure to submit these declarations with the nomination papers could result in penalties.
