MoD Issued Firearms for 1,500; Future Allocations to Depend on Intelligence Reports

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the issuance of 1,690 firearms for a total of 1,500 individuals.

A senior official from the Ministry of Defence said that all firearms and ammunition must be returned to the government's commercial explosives unit by November 7.

Although 48 hours have passed since the ministry notified civilians to hand over their firearms and ammunition, no individuals have yet complied with the directive.

The MoD added that in the future, firearms will only be issued based on intelligence reports.
