Threat-Based Security Measures for President and VIPs

COLOMBO (News 1st); Several revisions to VIP security measures have been proposed to the relevant Minister. 

This decision was made during a meeting held yesterday, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravi Seneviratne.

The police have suggested that the deployment of officers for the security of the President and other VIPs should be based on current threat assessments. Additionally, it was proposed that revised security measures be implemented for former Presidents.

The number of officers required for various security duties has been proposed, and these recommendations will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval once the relevant Minister grants consent.
