COLOMBO (News 1st): President Ranil Wickremesinghe, accompanied by Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe, arrived at the College House polling station at the University of Colombo this morning (21) to cast their votes.

Speaking to the media afterwards, President Wickremesinghe emphasized the importance of unity and peace, urging everyone to come together and embark on a new journey for the country. 

He expressed humble pride in being able to organize an election while safeguarding the democratic rights of the people.

The President described this election as a pivotal moment for Sri Lanka, offering a valuable opportunity to move away from traditional politics and economic policies that have hindered the nation's progress. He called it a chance to establish a new social and political system.

In closing, President Wickremesinghe thanked all voters, expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful and free nature of the election, and extended his gratitude to the candidates and the Election Commission for their participation and efforts.
