Special Day for Distribution of Polling Card Copies

 COLOMBO (News 1st);

Today has been allocated as a special day for the distribution of polling card copies for the 2024 Presidential Election.

Senior Deputy Postmaster Rajitha Ranasinghe said the Department of Posts is focusing solely on this task.

Post offices will be open exclusively for this purpose from 8 AM to 6 PM.

From Monday (09) to Saturday (14), the distribution of polling card copies will proceed door-to-door.

Meanwhile, the Department of Posts has reported that 80% of postal ballot papers have been handed back to them.

Ranasinghe said that ballot papers with votes already cast have been safely packeted, and will be sent to returning officers. 

Postal voters who were unable able to cast their postal votes so far have been given the opportunity to cast their votes on September 11 and 12, at the election offices in the district where their workplace is located.

712,319 state sector employees were deemed eligible to cast postal votes this year.
