NEC Orders Police to Investigate Social Media Photo of Postal Ballot Paper With Votes Already Cast

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Election Commission has informed the Police to take legal action against a person who photographed a postal ballot paper with votes already cast, and circulated it on social media. 

The NEC said that it has already taken steps to take the post down from social media platforms.

The Election Commission said that legal action will be taken against the person who uploaded the photograph onto social media, and also the people who shared it across various platforms. 

It adds that if one is found to be guilty of the above charge, they will have to pay a fine of Rs. 400,000, or serve a 6-month prison sentence, as per the Election Act of Sri Lanka.
