Weather Alert: Heavy Showers and Strong Winds Expected

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Meteorology Department has issued a weather alert, forecasting showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts. 

Some areas in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, may experience heavy showers exceeding 100 mm.

In addition, showers or thundershowers are expected in a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night. 

Strong winds, ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, are anticipated over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Furthermore, the sun will be directly overhead in Sri Lanka from August 28th to September 6th due to its apparent southward relative motion. Today (3rd), the sun will be directly overhead at 12:09 PM in Negombo, Gampola, Bibile, and Akkaraipattu.

Residents are urged to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary safety measures.
