Cabinet Approves New Nominations for LG Poll

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cabinet has approved a proposal to call for new nominations for the local government elections.

This decision was made following a joint proposal by the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, PC announced that the Cabinet has also given approval to cancel the previously submitted nominations for the local government elections. 

Minister Sabry stated that a bill will be introduced to Parliament to formalize this approval. 

He explained that the proposal was driven by the recent registration of 930,000 new voters and to increase youth participation.
