Police Mobilizes 54,000 Officers for Election Security

COLOMBO (News 1st); As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, Sri Lanka Police announced comprehensive plans to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process.



Senior Deputy Inspector General of Elections revealed that nearly 54,000 police officers will be assigned to election duties across the country.



In addition to the significant police presence, approximately 3,200 mobile patrols will be deployed during the election period.



The police have also recruited around 1,500 workers specifically tasked with removing illegal poster cutout advertisements.



To date, these efforts have resulted in the removal of 169,358 illegal posters and cutouts.



Security measures have been further bolstered with over 260 officers assigned to directly protect presidential candidates. 



The Sri Lanka Police has engaged in discussions with both local and foreign election observation teams, ensuring their support and cooperation. These teams have been briefed on the police's election activities and protocols.



The Sri Lanka Police is also seeking special assistance from the Civil Defense Department and the Army to enhance security during the election period.
