Voters with Disabilities Urged to Obtain Fitness Certificates

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission has issued an important reminder to voters with visual impairments or physical disabilities to promptly obtain fitness certificates required for casting their vote in the upcoming presidential election.

The commission outlined the process for obtaining these certificates. 

Application forms are available at district election offices, district secretary's offices, village officer's offices, and on the ELECTIONS.GOV.LK website. 

Once completed, the forms must be certified by Grama Niladhari Officers and submitted to a government medical officer to confirm the voter's eligibility.

On election day, voters with visual impairments or physical disabilities must bring their certified eligibility papers to their respective polling stations.

They must also be accompanied by a person who is at least 18 years old. 

The commission emphasized that this person should not be an authorized representative of any candidate or a polling agent.
