Mahanayake Raises Concerns Over Proposed Sri Lanka-India Bridge

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Most Venerable Tibbattuwave Sri Sumangala Thero, Mahanayake of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siam Sect, expressed concerns regarding the potential impact of the proposed bridge between Sri Lanka and India during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha.

During the discussion, the Mahanayake Thero questioned the progress and potential security threats posed by the project. 

High Commissioner Jha assured that the project, which requires extensive planning and discussion, would take at least two more years to materialize. 

He emphasized that the bridge would bring significant benefits to Sri Lanka, including new investments and economic opportunities, and urged esteemed scholars to help convey this message to the public.

The Mahanayake Thero raised further concerns about the political implications and potential for increased smuggling activities, particularly of Kerala ganja, with improved connectivity.

High Commissioner Jha responded that negotiations are still ongoing and reassured that the bond between India and Sri Lanka would remain strong, regardless of political changes.
