Heavy Showers in Parts of Sri Lanka; Landslide Warnings Issued

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Over 100 mm of heavy showers were experienced in the 17 hour window that ended at 01:00 AM today.

The heaviest rainfall of 191.5 mm was reported from Neluwa, Galle. 

Walallawita, Kalutara experienced showers of 177 mm while Horana, Kalutara experienced showers of 120 mm.

Colombo experienced showers of 116.5 mm.

Eheliyagoda experienced showers of 116 mm and Udugama, Galle experienced showers of 115.5 mm.

The pevailing showery condition are expected to continue in the south-western part of the island due to the low-level atmospheric
disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Due to the prevailing showery condition, landslide warnings were issued for several divisional secretaries in several districts.

Landslide warnings have been issued to Neluwa, Yakkalamulla, Nagoda and Elpitiya in the Galle District, Horana, and Mathugama from the Kalutara District and Pitabeddara from the Matara District.
