SC Blocks Implementation of Wage Increase Gazette

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Supreme Court issued an interim order halting the implementation of the gazette announcement made by the Secretary of the Ministry of Labor on May 21st, which mandated an increase in daily wages of plantation workers to 1700 rupees. This order was issued in response to a petition filed by several plantation companies, including the Agarapathana Plantation Company, challenging the wage increase. The petition was presented before a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Gamini Amarasekara, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe, and Janak de Silva. The order will remain in effect until the petition hearing concludes.
