COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the May Day rally organized by the Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) said that the estate line-houses will be legally designated as villages.

He pledged government support for education, particularly addressing teacher shortages and expanding vocational training opportunities.

In his address the President acknowledged the significant contributions of plantation workers, emphasizing that their resilience and role in sustaining the country's economy, particularly through tea exports, bolstered foreign currency reserves in recent years.

Turning to economic policies, the President highlighted measures undertaken to alleviate hardships, such as salary increments for government employees, increased welfare provisions, and support for the private sector.

He underscored ongoing efforts to strengthen the economy and improve living standards, including addressing issues specific to plantation workers.
