Special security plan for Iranian President's visit

COLOMBO (News1st); Sri Lanka Police said a special security programme and traffic plan are in place on Wednesday (24) due to the Iranian President's visit to Sri Lanka.

Police Spokesman DIG Attorney Nihal Thalduwa said the security programme will cover areas the Iranian President is due to travel to.

The support of the Police Special Task Force and the Tri-Forces will also be obtained for this programme.

In a special statement to media last night, the Police Spokesman said the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway will be closed from 2-3pm and 9:30-10:30pm on Wednesday (24).

Multiple roads in Mattala, Thanamalvila, Wellawaya, Uma Oya will also be closed from 9:45-11am on Wednesday (24).

DIG Nihal Thalduwa said the special traffic plan will be in place in Colombo, and multiple roads will be closed.

The Police Spokesman said the road leading from the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway to the Orugudawatta Junction in Peliyagoda, Dematagoda to the D. S. Senanayake Junction in Borella, Horton Place, Horton Place Roundabout, Green Path, Library Roundabout, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Liberty Roundabout, R. A. De Mel Mawatha, St. Michael's Road, the road leading from Galle Road to Colombo Fort and the road to Hilton Hotel will be closed during specified times.

President of Iran Dr. Ebrahim Raisi will arrive in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (24) morning on an official visit.

The Iranian President is due to arrive at the Mattala International Airport at 9.30am.

He is due to inaugurate the hydropower plant within the Uma Oya Multipurpose Project upon his arrival. 

Following this event, President Raisi will proceed to Colombo, where an official reception awaits him in the afternoon. 

During this event, five bilateral agreements will be signed, and the Presidents of both nations will grace this occasion with their presence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the two Heads of State are also due to make a special statement.

Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, currently serving as the President of Iran since 2021, previously held the esteemed position of Chief Justice of Iran from 2019 to 2021.

Dr. Raisi served as the Attorney General of Iran during the years 2014 to 2016.

He will arrive in Sri Lanka after concluding his three-day visit to Pakistan.
