Ottawa mass killing suspect declines bail

Febrio de Soyza, the 19-year-old Sri Lankan accused of the mass killing of a Sri Lankan family in Ottawa, has opted not to pursue bail, according to his lawyer.

Febrio was apprehended and charged in early March with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder after COLOMBO (News 1st) - Authorities discovered deceased family members in a townhouse located in the Barrhaven suburb, Ottawa, Canada.

Currently held in custody, Febrio de Soyza has conveyed through his legal representative, Evan Little, that he does not intend to seek bail at this juncture.

Having been studying in Canada as an international student, Febrio de Soyza is scheduled to appear in court next week, during which lawyers anticipate arranging a date for a preliminary hearing in his case.

Five members of Dhanushka Wickramsinghe's family were killed at their home in Ottawa.

Among the dead were Wickramasinghe's wife, 35-year-old Darshani Ekanayake, and their four young children: seven-year-old Inuka Wickramasinghe, four-year-old Ashwini Wickramasinghe, three-year-old Ranaya Wickramasinghe, and two-and-half-month-old Kelly Wickramasinghe.

Police also found the body of 40-year-old Amarakoonmudiayansela Ge Gamini Amarakoon, an acquaintance who was living with the family.
