Brother of Drug Kingpin Held in CAA Employee's Gruesome Murder

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police apprehended the suspect in the brutal murder of a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) employee at the Kahathuduwa exit of the Southern Expressway.

The victim, a 41-year-old woman from Piliyandala, was reportedly returning home after her shift when she was attacked by the suspect.

Details released by the police reveal that the suspect, a 47-year-old resident of Panadura, allegedly approached the victim with a sword as she disembarked from a bus after arriving from Katunayake. 

The attack, which occurred in broad daylight, resulted in the woman's death on the spot.

According to reports, the suspect, was arrested at the Katunayake airport as he attempted to flee the country for Malaysia. 

Notably, police claim he is the elder brother of Ellawala Liyanage Dharmasiri Perera, a known drug trafficker currently residing abroad.

While the motive behind the heinous crime remains unclear, police are actively investigating all potential leads.
