Today (27) marks World Tourism Day

COLOMBO (News 1st); Today (27) marks World Tourism Day, and this year's theme is "Tourism and Green Investments".

Although the Sri Lankan tourism sector was hit by the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing political and economic instability, from the start of this year, a gradual growth was visible in the tourism industry.

The number of tourists who arrived in Sri Lanka exceeded one million on Tuesday (26), indicating that the tourism sector is stabilizing once again.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Priyantha Fernando said there is a significant growth in the number of tourists arriving in Sri Lanka from Middle Eastern countries as well as countries including Spain, Netherlands, Belarus and Israel.

He said a special programme was formulated to facilitate the growth of tourist arrivals.

Promoting the tourism industry that brings foreign exchange to Sri Lanka, will undoubtedly be an effective solution to the foreign exchange issue.
