Colombo( News 1st ) - China's parliament has officially elected Li Qiang as the country's next premier.
President Xi Jinping had nominated Li Qiang, who was formerly the Communist Party leader of Shanghai, to replace the retiring Li Keqiang.
Li Qiang received almost unanimous support from the more than 2,900 delegates at the National People's Congress, which was expected given his close alliance with President Xi Jinping.
As a pragmatist, Li Qiang's primary responsibility will be to revive China's struggling economy.
On Sunday (12), the announcement of new ministerial appointments will tell who will be working with Li Qiang in the new government.
