COLOMBO (News 1st) - Aiming to provide a ray of hope to families throughout Sri Lanka reeling from the economic crisis, a massive school book donation programme titled the 'Sirasa Shakthi Poth Yathra' was officially launched on Tuesday (6) at the MTV Network Head Office in Colombo.

The official launch of the programme took place under the auspices of eminent religious leaders of the Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic, Anglican and Islamic faiths, including His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, and Rt. Rev. Dushantha Fernando - Bishop of Colombo.

MTV / MBC Networks took a clear decision, given the circumstances in the country, to not carry out its regular Christmas Zone celebrations, and instead organise a school book donation drive that would help students and parents in the new school year.

The entire Sri Lankan public now have the opportunity to donate books and other stationery items for school children in need around the country, with a collection centre at the Echelon Square in Colombo, from 9 am to 5 pm until the  24th of December.
