COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Justice Dr.Wijayadasa Rajapaksa says the latest resolution adopted on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council would have an effect on the proposed IMF bailout as well as the GSP+ concession.
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Reforms attributes the change of stances Sri Lanka as a nation adopted from time to time and the breakdown of the general public's trust in its leaders to the UNHRC resolution being passed.
The Minister warned that this development has pushed Sri Lanka into a perilous situation.
The resolution presented at the 51st Session of the UNHRC by the core group on Sri Lanka was passed yesterday.
9 out of the 19 facts presented in the resolution concerned the economic crisis in the country and recent violations of human rights.
20 countries voted in favour of the resolution while 7 opposed it.
20 countries including India, Japan and Nepal abstained from voting.
The Minister of Justice pointed out that he will continue to hand in hand with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expedite steps to introduce democratic reforms while working with the international community through a mutual understanding.
