COLOMBO (News 1st); Nine petitions were filed with the Supreme Court seeking a ruling that certain articles in the Draft 22nd Amendment are inconsistent with the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
The petitions were filed by nine citizens including Attorney-At-Law Nagananda Kodithuwakku, and Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera.
The Sri Lankan Attorney General was named as the respondent in all applications.
The petitioners state that certain articles in the Draft 22nd Amendment that was presented to the Parliament on the 10th of August by the Government, are inconsistent with the provisions of the constitution.
The petitioners state that these articles violate the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
