COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe states that the 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be presented to the Cabinet on Monday (23) as it has been drafted.
Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the newly appointed Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, stated today (20) that although he originally did not intend to take a Ministerial position, he did not have a choice in the face of strong requests made by the President and the Prime Minister.
Therefore, he stated that took up the position as he was invited to hold it independently.
The Minister emphasized that his first responsibility is eliminating the current political instability, and for that, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution must be brought forward and new changes should be made to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Dr. Rajapakshe pointed out as the 21st Amendment to the Constitution has already been drafted and finalized, he hopes to present it to the Cabinet on Monday (23).
We will present it to Parliament as soon as it is approved by the Cabinet and passed, he added.
