Locals band together against N'Eliya festivities

COLOMBO (News 1st); A crowd was seen engaged in a protest against a New Year festival held at Carlton Pre-School in Nuwara Eliya today (01).

Meanwhile, the inaugural ceremony of the Nuwara Eliya Wasantha Senakeliya held under the patronage of the Mayor of Nuwara Eliya was also received with much backlash. 

The Nuwara Eliya Wasantha Senakeliya Opening Ceremony was held today (01) at the Gregory's Park.

Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage and State Minister Jeevan Thondaman were scheduled to officiate the event however, they did not attend.

Protesters demanded for the reason to spend money and hold festivities at a time when the country is facing an economic crisis.
