COLOMBO (News 1st); The funds which were embezzled via the 'Helping Hambantota' project will be taken back by people of this country, says JVP MP Vijitha Herath.
Participating in Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna's 'Gamen Patan Gamu' program held in Ampara, MP Herath stated that the people of this country can still remember the 'Helping Hambantota' incident and the billions of funds stolen from the people of this country.
Stating that this is a crime which had gone unpunished for seventeen years, Herath cited the statements of the former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, who confessed that he intervened to free the culprits of the 'Helping Hambantota' scandal, and said that the people had to pay for the crimes of others.
Today the country's economy has collapsed due to such a catastrophe, with rising commodity prices and the shortage of fertilizer, said MP Herath, and mentioned that a pilgrimage to Tirupati would not save them of the crimes committed.
The theft that was committed still remains in the hearts of the people, he said, adding that the stolen money will be taken back by the people of this country.
