COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan government has decided to import Nano Nitrogen Liquid Fertilizer manufactured in India, for cultivations in Sri Lanka.
Agriculture Secretary Senior Professor Udith K. Jayasinghe said the decision was reached at a meeting chaired by Secretary to the President Dr. P. B. Jayasundara and the first consignment of Nano Nitrogen Liquid Fertilizer will reach Sri Lanka on Tuesday (19).
At the meeting between the Secretary to the President, Agriculture Secretary, State Officials it was decided to import Nano Nitrogen Liquid Fertilizer from the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), one of India's biggest cooperative society which is wholly owned by Indian Cooperatives.
"Sri Lanka requires around 2.2 million liters of Nano Nitrogen Liquid Fertilizer for paddy and maize. But, we decided to import 3.1 million liters to be used for fruits and vegetables as well," said the Agriculture Secretary.
He pointed out that Nano-fertilizers have emerged as a promising alternative that ensures high crop production and soil restoration.
IFFCO Nano Urea Liquid is a novel smart fertilizer developed 1st time in the world by a patented technology of IFFCO at its Nano Biotechnology Research Center, Kalol, Gujarat.
