Prisons Department decides to permit visitation

COLOMBO (News 1st); Prison authorities have decided to grant visitation privileges to prisons and suspects with effect from Monday (4).

Prisons Spokesperson & Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake speaking to News 1st said prisoners will be allowed one visitor per month and suspects will be allowed one visitor per week.

Visitation was suspended from the 07th of August 2021, due to COVID-19.

However, the Department of Prisons urged relatives of prisoners and inmates to continue to use the online portal for visitation access.
