COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka has earned a record revenue of Rs. 63 billion through export agriculture in the first 08-months of 2021, the Department of Export Agriculture said.
"This is an increase of Rs. 17 billion compared to the last year," Dr. A.P. Heenkenda, the Director-General at the Department of Export Agriculture told News 1st on Tuesday (Sept. 28).
More than 40,000 metric tonnes of crops such as Cinnamon, Pepper, Cloves, and Betel Leaves among others were exported this year, he added.
According to Dr. Heenkenda, Rs. 26.9 billion was earned through exporting Cinnamon alone, while Rs. 13 billion was earned from Pepper.
Last year, Sri Lanka recorded around Rs. 45 billion worth of revenue from export agriculture.
