COLOMBO (News 1st); Former State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal says he will accept the letter of appointment for the post of Governor of the Central Bank on Tuesday (14) and assume duties on the 15th.

'My main objectives as CBSL governor would be to create economic and monetary stability in the country," he told reporters.

Cabraal also noted that the new post of CBSL governor will likely be similar to the post of a cabinet minister.

'In many countries, the post of Central Bank Governor is similar to a member of the Cabinet of Ministers. It would be easy to negotiate with the international community when there is such recognition," he said.

Noting that the country faces numerous challenges, the in-coming CBSL governor said solutions will be provided to those challenges.

Commenting on the controversial pension for Central Bank Governors, Cabraal said he has not retired and therefore he will not receive a pension.

'They can give me a pension when I decide to retire,' he said.

The Former State Minister assured that he would uplift the economy, but did not give a window for when it would happen.
