Health Ministry recommends vaccination against COVID during pregnancy

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Health Ministry has noted that pregnant women can be vaccinated at anytime during the pregnancy, irrespective of the trimester.

It also noted that Sinopharm, AstraZeneca/Covishield, COMIRNATY and Moderna vaccines can be considered for the vaccination program.

The Health Ministry notes that it is advised to vaccinate pregnant women for 02 doses of the same vaccine keeping the recommended gap between doses per the instructions of the epidemiology unit.

The Health Ministry also noted that if another routine vaccine to protect from a different disease is to be given during pregnancy, the priority should be given to the COVID-19 vaccine.
