COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called on the government to lock down the country for at least a few days considering the serious situation prevailing in the country due to COVID-19.
A statement from Sajith Premadasa noted that the opposition had repeatedly called on the government to go for a lock down and stressed that this call is considering the serious situation in the country.
Sajith Premadasa reiterated that though the government laughs at all proposals put forward by the opposition, the people are paying for those actions with their tears.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says that the country is currently facing a severe shortage of about 40 essential drugs.
He stated this in a press release, emphasizing that essential medicine necessary for treating COVID-19 and Pneumonia has seen a steep decline, especially the specific drug 'Tocilizumab'.
The Opposition Leader also mentions that the reason for COVID-19 infected Specialist Surgeon Sathish Jayasinghe, one of the foremost physicians of the country, to pass away was the shortage of this specific drug.
Premadasa also mentions that although the Opposition has informed the Government on the shortage of drugs several times, all their concerns have been met with insults and disregard from the Government.
He adds that the Opposition never prescribed any drugs and is only following the opinions expressed by health experts.
