Ranil calls for weekly COVID briefing in Parliament

COLOMBO (News 1st); UNP Parliamentarian Ranil Wickremesinghe has called on the Sri Lankan Government to provide weekly updates to parliament on the COVID-19 situation in the country.

'Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the UK Government has been delivering regular briefings and we would wish the same here,' said Wickremesinghe.

He urged for the weekly briefing to be made by the Health Minister adding that several other members of government would announce different numbers.

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi also acknowledged Wickremesinghe's proposal adding it would be wise to do so rather than moving towards a time consuming question and answer session in the house.
