Sri Lanka to control local sugar prices

COLOMBO (News 1st); Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said measures will be taken to control the rising price of sugar in the country.

'The matter was discussed at the Finance Ministry on Monday (12) and both the Finance Secretary and sugar importers agreed to the price control,' the Minister told News 1st on Tuesday (13).

At present a kilogram of white sugar is sold for Rs. 129/- & a kilogram of brown sugar is sold for Rs. 159/- in the local market.
