05 arrested for posting pornographic images & videos online

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police Computer Crimes Divison arrested 05 people for publishing pornographic images and videos on various online platforms.

Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the Computer Crimes Division received 05 separate complaints and following investigations the arrests were made.

One suspect was arrested from Pita Kotte in respect of the offense of obscene publications and circulating pornographic video clips on social media.

In addition, another suspect was arrested from Rajagiriya for the same offense.

Further, a 23-year-old male was also arrested from Pujapitiya, Kandy for the same offense.

In addition, a 39-year-old male from Piliyandala was arrested by the Police Computer Crimes Division following a complaint filed by a victim who claimed nude photographs were published by the suspect on social media.

Further, a 31-year-old male was arrested from Imbulgoda following a complaint filed against him for illegally accessing a Facebook account and inserting pornographic material on the account.

The 05 suspects were produced in the court and investigations are continuing against them.

Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st suspects arrested for such crimes will be prosecuted as per the respective provisions of the Penal Code and the Obscene Publications Act.

He said there is a rise in such crimes in Sri Lanka, especially after the break-up of relationships.
