COLOMBO (News 1st); For many rural areas in Sri Lanka, WATER is a LUXURY.

Gammadda launched a community water supply project in one of the most remote areas in the Anuradhapura District.

The 'Yaya 06 Grama Niladhari Division' is home to approximately 600 families covering five villages.

These families depend of paddy farming and hired labor as means of income.

And... the main issue they face is not the luxuries enjoyed in the city, but access to CLEAN DRINKING WATER.

People are compelled to travel about two kilometers to get water while 40 kidney patients in these villages are facing complications by the day.

Chronic Kidney Disease or CKD has already claimed 50 lives from this rural area.

The new WATER SUPPLY project was carried out in partnership with 'The Club HNB'.

This project is being implemented under the full technical supervision of the Sri Lanka Navy.

All COVID-19 guidelines were followed in launching the project which aims to end CKD and bring clean drinking water closer to the people who have been deprived of it for years.
