1,047 people arrested in 24 hours for violating the quarantine law

COLOMBO (News 1st); A total of 1,047 people were arrested on Monday (31) for the violation of quarantine rules and regulations.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said this is the highest number of arrests made in 24 hours since the quarantine rules and regulations were introduced on the 18th of March 2020.

160 people were arrested in Matale while 119 people were arrested by Nikaweratiya Police and 98 people were arrested by the Kandy Police.

19,102 people were arrested for the violation of quarantine laws since the 30th of October 2020.

Sri Lanka Police said 23,000 police officers were deployed to monitor the movement of the public especially in the road of Colombo.

In addition, 03 people were arrested in a special drone operation on Monday (31) in Katukurunda for violating the quarantine laws.
